Part 1 – Intro to Mahjongg
Learn the tiles, Mahjongg vocabulary, how to read the National Mahjongg League card, the Charleston, and the basic flow of the game in a welcoming, beginner-friendly environment.
Part 2 – Building Confidence: Guided Play & Strategy
Continue your learning through guided play while strengthening your decision-making, strategy, and confidence. We'll reinforce what you learned in Part 1, answer your questions, and help you feel comfortable sitting down at any American Mahjongg table.

Learning Mahjongg takes more than one lesson. That's exactly why we created the Beginners Series! By combining Part 1 ("Intro to Mahjongg"), which teaches the fundamentals, with Part 2 ("Building Confidence: Guided Play & Strategy"), you will not only learn the essentials, you will also gain the knowledge and experience to play confidently and independently!

This guided play class bridges the gap between learning the rules and feeling confident enough to play independently. Through coached play and real-game situations, you'll reinforce the fundamentals while learning to:

Inspiring Kids through the fun of Strategic Gameplay
Mini Mahjer is best suited for kids ages 8-14. All experience levels are welcome!
Studio Mahjongg Kids Lessons (Mini Mahjer) introduces children to the exciting world of Mahjongg through a simplified, engaging game style designed specifically for young learners.
In Mini Mahjer classes, kids will learn:

Several times throughout the year we host special Open Play Events where current and former students come together to practice, ask questions, and reconnect with fellow students.
Student Open Play is one of the ways we continue to support our students—providing a welcoming place to practice, build confidence, make new friends, and enjoy the game together for years to come.

Whether you recently completed the Beginner Series or took lessons months ago, you're always welcome back. There is no formal instruction, but guidance is always available when you need it.
As a Studio Mahjongg student, you'll always be welcome at any of our Open Play events!
We typically host at least one pop-up style Open Play Event each month.

Julie Rami is a passionate Mahjongg educator dedicated to making this classic game accessible to everyone. For more than 35 years, she has been helping people learn and grow as an educator. As a lifelong teacher with a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction, she understands that every student learns differently. That's why she has designed these classes to meet the needs of all learners, making the game approachable and enjoyable.
In addition to her extensive teaching background, Julie has completed a Rules Trek and earned a certificate demonstrating her expert knowledge of National Mah Jongg League rules. This specialized training allows her to provide accurate, up-to-date instruction. Every class is crafted to provide a learning experience that is welcoming, professional, and fun for every new player.
